Das Boot(The Boat) (1981)

Incredible, a Masterpiece, words cannot describe how good this movie is. This is without a doubt the best film you will ever watch about a submarine, and one of the best war films you will see.
The film is about a young writer for the Nazi party who is put on board a German U-boat with an anti-war captain(Jurgen Prochnow). The crew of the U-boat has to battle against the Allies-forces boats in the Atlantic.
The film is intense, thanks to good editing, fast paced cinematography, and terrifying sound effects of bombs being dropped on the boat. Wolfgang Petersen does a great job of getting the claustrophobic feel of submarine.
Petersen does a great job at making us forget that these sailors are Nazis. He makes it about the individuals who fought in the war. The film could of just as well taken place on American or English ship.
The film has received great critical acclaim, 6 academy award nominations(Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Sound, and Best Sound Effects Editing), and is currently 64 on imdb top 250 films.
